The Impact of American Film Director, Alexander Payne
After Alexander Payne graduated with a master’s degree at UCLA Film School, he started working on Citizen Ruth. Citizen Ruth is about an unemployed, reckless, pregnant woman, Ruth, who undertakes an abortion debate. It stars Lauren Dern, Swoosie Kurtz, and Mary Kay Place. In the movie, Bruce Dern, Laura Dern’s father, features in the film production together with other renowned actors such as Will Forte and Stacey Keach.
Most of the other positions are taken by people in Nebraska. Payne believes that Nebraskan’s matter and, as such wanted to give them the limelight through his shows. Citizen Ruth gained popularity and positive reviews and brought Alexander Payne into the limelight. Payne worked with Jim Taylor on the production of Citizen Ruth in 1996
The film was set up in Nebraska, and viewers can easily note the Nebraska license plates on the cars. This was among the earliest films from Payne featured in his home state. In 1999, he produced another Nebraska production which was filmed in Papillion, Bellevue, Elkhorn, and Omaha. Reese Witherspoon and Matthew Broderick starred in the Election film.
In 2002, Alexander Payne produced yet another film, About Schmidt. The setup locations included Lincoln, Nebraska, Minden, Omaha, Ogallala, and Kearney. Both films captured scenes where Payne grew up in Dundee, Omaha.
Due to journalistic leanings, Alexander Payne likes to draw attention to the setup of all his films. He seeks to bring about a documentary perspective in commercial films. In his initial three films, Payne was interested in capturing the elusive sense of the location. The success of other films was heavily influenced by the achievements of the first three films.
The American film director has shot different films in Hawaii and California. Although Payne has visited many exotic places, his ties to Omaha remain unshaken. Aside from his parents living in Omaha, he keeps Oscar awards there as well. Payne also has another home in Los Angeles, although Omaha still takes the prize.
Currently, Alexander Payne is working on producing his fourth movie in Nebraska. The film is under Paramount Productions and is anticipated to be filmed in various locations. Some of these places include Lyons, Lincoln, Plainview, Osmond, Norfolk, Creighton, and Stanton.
